Default Engine Modifications

I have a 1998 FHLR that has approximately 26k miles that is completely stock except for stage 1 exhaust and breather. It is my "fun" bike and I am thinking about doing some modifications to the engine but would like to hear some suggestions from others on some things which would give the bike more power but yet let it remain an good everyday bike to ride around town. I am open to suggestions and comments. Thanks in advance.

Lots of info in the Evo section. Andrews 27 was the "go to" cam in baggers. If ya want more, headwork and compression along with bigger cam will help alot. Ya will need to bore the cases to do 88+ cylinders and there are stroker kits too. All $s. Enjoy!

Branch heads
EV27 cam
2 into 1 Thunder Header exhaust
S&S Breather Reed Valve.
any decent forged pistons with the SE head gasket.

Good luck and have fun!

It does change the disposition of that Evo motor and sadly there is so much smack talk about the Evo motor that I'm beginning to think that a lot of these fellers weren't around when the Evo was being sold in dealerships like hot cakes. Lots of great potential for those motors and there is no such thing as any sort of acceptable crank run out.

Lots of $s to get 100/100 out of an evo. Pretty easy with a twincam...

Since you ask, 16 years of a good 26K and now you want to screw it up!?.....think about it. Getting it in your head that you need to shave off a second between red lights makes as much sense as a dog with two dicks..

So much can be done to that bike. I have 2 TC 88's and my 01 Road King has Andrews 57 cams with a 95" kit going on it soon. Already have the parts but just dropped my Road Glide off for tranny work today so waiting until it is out of the shop. I would be careful about boring and thinning out cylinder walls but boo koo engine mods that will wake that bike up. Hell, mine has about 95K on it. Ride that sucker!!!!

That set up I described is perfectly reliable but yes, it IS expensive!
But if you want a little more out of that Evo, it aint a bad set up.
