Default Key

So, while I was up at Laconia I lost my key to my Street Glide. No big deal, I figure I'll go to the dealer with my spare & have another made. I head to the parts counter & ask to have a key made. The parts guy looks at me like I have 3 heads & tells me "we don't do that." I look at him & say what do you mean you don't do that. He says we can order you a key but it will take at least a week.

I may be way off but don't you think dealers should have the ability to make keys?

No I don't, it'd only be one more thing they could screw up plus I wouldn't want some fast talking joker who wants to ride off on my scoot having easy access to keys, especially at a Rally.

there are a few locksmiths that can do it but most aren't set up for barrel keys.

I don't expect dealers to do this. When I needed some backup copies, I went to a local locksmith that make barrel keys. .99 each.

If I was going to the dealer, I would buy a bag lock or something that comes with a matching key, not that much more.
