they use the same mount as the ones that HD sells. HD provides some thin rubber strips that glue to the saddlebag to keep the flag mount from rubbing the paint. I was going to use them on my UC, but was afraid of potentially damaging the paint. finally went to eastern performance and bought a couple of mounts that clamp on the luggage rack rails.
I use them on both the saddle bag AND my tour pack. When mounted on the tour pack, the flagpole leans back about 30 degrees. When put on the trailing end of a saddlebag, the flagpole is straight up.
Some can, but they tend to vibrate and scratch the paint.
If only for temporary, I buy wooden poles and tie wrap to the gaurd rails.
Otherwise spring for the bolt down mounts.
try www.bikerflags.com same thing the Dealer sells, but at less than 1/2 the price. You can use the tourpack mounted poles and put them on the rear of your saddlebags. I run mine all of the time on my Ultra, and they hold up very well. Most of my miles are at over 70mph, get 4000 or so out of a flag, and double that out of a pole (I ride about 25000/year).
