Default Upgrade suggestions

Ok, I have a stock 1999 Ultra. I have decided that instead of selling/trading a paid off bike with roughly 25k miles and buying something new with a large price tag and payment I am going to "upgrade" the performance. I could really use some suggestions as to what I could do with roughly $2,500 cash to invest...................

You could go in two different directions....

Improve handling- new rear shocks, new front springs/cartridges, a TrueTrack stabilizer, and CCE front triple trees.

You could do most of that for $2500, maybe all of it if you do your own install...

Improve engine performance- Air cleaner, exhaust, Cams & tune...

Again most of that for $2500, all of it if you do your own install.

Good luck with your decision.....

For performance upgrades, "brand" suggestions?

hattitude has given excellent advice. With improved comfort, suspension and steering you will be noticably quicker! I would add Ohlins or JRI shocks to his suggestions, plus fabrik8r's tuned Intiminators, otherwise I have that list above.

Those things are easily identified, because the choices of worthwhile stuff are so few. For engine performance improvements, the choice is much wider and less easy to button down. My suggestion is to identify one of the HDF tuning sponsors, such as Hillside or FuelMoto, and go with one of their tuning packages.

'99 would have MM fuel injection. Not a great thing for performance upgrades these days. Ya could do something like PC3, Supermeg, Ness sucker, and Andrews 26 cams for under $2500. Adding 95/98 pistons and headwork would be some more. Oh, check your cam tensioner shoes...

Took the words right out of my mouth. That bike would be WAY pricey to really up the power. 99s are the worse of the MM bikes, too.

Do what hippie says and call it done, no head porting, etc need be used, the bike will not withstand, nor tune in, with more.

Now... if it's a carb bike? That would help a ton.

Cam tensioners checked around 16k, were fine. Will definitely have them checked before 25k.
