Default Tourpak rack placement

I bought a kuryakyn tourpak rack, and it did not come with a template. I am looking for the exact placement before I drill. It make sence to me to line the rear of the rack up with the top rear of the tourpak, but I would like to know/ see how they are mounted at the HD Factory on the bikes that come stock with them.

Anyone have a pic or 2 of a mounted rack so I can be certain on the placement?

Depends how big the rack is. When I fitted mine (not a Kuryakyn) I mounted it to the front, not the rear. I want the weight of any extra luggage well forwards on the bike, not hanging out the back! The backrest gives a good reference point for deciding where to mount it. You could trace the mounting points onto a large sheet of paper, to help transfer them to the lid.

I mounted this one after seeing how crooked one of my friends was after the dealer mounted it. I must have spent an hour measuring and remeasuring, but it's pretty damn straight. Hope this helps. Bikes on the lift, so I'm a little limited on angles.

i just put a rack on my TP a couple of weeks ago. Make sure you leave enough clearance between the rack and the passenger backrest - when the passenger leans against the backrest, the backrest may compress backwards some. I left about 3/4" of clearance between the backrest and the rack when measured from top of the rack with no passenger. I had my wife sit on the passenger seat and lean back to make sure I had sufficient clearance before I drilled any holes.

Thanks guys, I got it mounted. 3 holes lined up perfectly, the 4th one was off by a hair, had to ream out the hole slightly to get thee bolt in. All is good, and straight.
