Components are adjustable backrest kit 52596-09A with backrest pad 52423-09A on 2014 Road King with stock seat. Installation was painful but successful however, the position of the mounting arm at any setting seems to push the foam on the seat like 3/4"-1" towards the front with a corresponding gap behind the arm of approximately the same amount. Seems like to align properly the seat needs to go forward up to an inch or the arm needs to go back the same amount. I know the position of the seat is fixed and it sure looks like the backrest mount is likewise. Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated.

Ps the position and movement of the backrest are as they should be so the arm to the pad isn't on backwards. Thanks again

 

Installed the same kit on my 2003 Electra Glide. Noticed the same thing so when I ride without the back rest installed I pull the switch to position the holder to the rear and take the load off the front of the seat and not have a large gap. I also cut two sections out of a mountain bike inner tube and stretched it around the post holder to protect the seat from the sharp parts and spring ends. Also installed the plastic protector supplied in the kit.

 

Yup had one on mine and it sucks. Wardspartswerks sells a shorter seat bracket that would eliminate most of the problem

 

Thanks for the info. I see an awful lot of bikes with rider back rests that don't seem to have this problem. Wonder if they are using something other than HD hardware. The way this appears to be set up and function, I don't see the seat holding up even with the "protector" piece installed

 

My dad loves his, but he doesn't flip it forward very often and is why I got one. I hated it. It's sitting in a box in my garage. I couldn't even sell the dang thing

 

I actually tried Jason's personal backrest and it worked great. He was out of stock and in a transitional stage therefore I was not able to get one. I ultimately had the seat made in to a Russell daylong and use their backrest

I see that you have an aftermarket seat. When I use my OEM seat it's a better fit. When I use my non tour pack stream lined seat it's a bigger gap.

Seat is not aftermarket as far as I know. Bought bike brand new from dealer

 

Its a stock RK seat.
