Wow, if HD is marketing a product and says it will fit when in fact it doesn't, that is absolutely horrible and says something pretty damning about the character and capability of the company. If i can' take this work without ruining my seat, it will be for sale soon. Wonder if HD is subbing manufacturing to China? So far I've had problems with pipes and now the backrest....my confidence in HD is plummeting.
BTD, Your seat looked to nice to be an OEM. Thanks for the clarification. What I noticed is with the OEM seat I have the distance from the top of the receiver to the top of the slit is much greater than my aftermarket seat. Yours could sit lower and not provide the distance for the stem to feed out at the correct location on the stem. Does that make sense? Design is lacking I agree 100%.
That does make sense and Hog 95023 referred to a shorter stem alleviating the problem. Unfortunately, the maker of that product seems to be off the market. I was really hoping there was some adjustment or perhaps a mistake during the install that created the problem. If this is as good as it gets it's a colossal POS at least for a 2014 stock RK seat. I'm flabbergasted that HD advertises this setup as suitable for a 2014 RK. The lesson I am slowly learning is leave it stock or use non-HD mods.
BTW, I have no issues with my adjustable backrest with my 2010 EG Limited stock seat and I bought a CVO heated Hammock that for the most part lines up (a little bit of pushing on the back. However, when I try to install a regular hammock is when I had the same issue that you show. I tried putting on a Harley demo hammock and showed the guy the problem but he had no answer why it does it.
Curious, is there anyone successfully using the HD adjustable backrest setup on a stock 2014 Road King? I wrote HD and their response was "...the fitment is validated but there have been some concerns. " I think that is doublespeak for it will fit but not at all well and will look like s**t

Basically what I got from them. Kind of shitty response in my mind. Yeah, it will technically go on but it looks like crap.
I have the same issue with the stock seat and a sundowner that I just bought. I am going to make the piece that goes into the mount bend right after it comes out of the bracket and adjust it accordingly I hope. With the stock seat I didn't know that it would tilt forward. It is better on the sundowner but stills needs to be adjusted so it is not putting pressure on the seat.
Thanks for the info. I see an awful lot of bikes with rider back rests that don't seem to have this problem. Wonder if they are using something other than HD hardware. The way this appears to be set up and function, I don't see the seat holding up even with the "protector" piece installed
I bought a Mustang riders backrest. Stock seat. I've had full Mustang seats with backrests in the past and liked them. I like my stock seat, so I just bought the Mustang backrest made to fit a Harley. I have a short inseam, and have a hard time swinging my leg over the seat with the backrest up,, so just flip the backrest down flat, get on, flip back up,and ready to ride
