Hey there , new to the forum , thanks for having me ! I have a 2000 Road King . I just changed the fluids and the manual reccomends 3.5 qts. When testing the level should the bike be upright or on its side stand?
Yep, my manual says to check it on the kickstand. IDK about yours, but on my SG, even though it calls for 3 1/2 quarts, if I put in more than 3, it's too much. I'd add 3, run it for a few minutes and then check to see if you need more. It's easier to add a little more at a time to get to the right level than it is to have to drain some out from being over filled.
mine also. 3 1/2 quarts with a new oil filter puts the oil level to the top of the dip stick. 3 quarts is usually smack dab in the middle of dip stick were it should be
Not too sure about the 2000, but my 2013 oil dip stick has a few markings.
1. Top of dip stick says Check Screwed In.
2. Has 2 markings, one side says Upright with the Add QT - Full HOT bar.
3. Other side says Jiffy with the Add QT - Full HOT bar.
The manual recommends checking on the jiffy stand unless bike is with sidecar.
The 3 1/2 might be with a new filter as it should be each time you change the oil.
As you can see I have the cousin bike and all the manuals for that year. Side stand it is and I to put in about 3.5 quarts with filter change. I also fill the new oil filter and let it sit before inatall. Remember when you do the tranny the bike has to be level.
