There are a great many different ways of designing a tyre, such as carcass construction, rubber compounds, tread pattern etc. Every tyre brand makes their tyres in their own way. Avon (possibly other brands as well) design their tyres to use higher pressures than say Dunlop, but they also are more comfortable to ride on, give great directional stability and excellent all weather grip. They may not last as many miles, but that is just another design feature!

Does the heat cycle of a tire and cooling time to reform affect the performance or gripping and longevity? I've had dunlops, avon, michelin, and metzler and the same tires perform different from time to time.

all the tire manufacturers have NEWER models out and i doubt anyones been on all of them,avons older line had the best grip but shortest life. u can't compare a dunlop 402 to metz 888 or vise versa. i dont think u can go wrong with any off them as they have all improved greatly.

+1 on the commanders ll's. Replaced my worn out stock dunlops with these and love em. They handle a lot better. The ride feels smoother. Hopefully i get the mileage out of these as i got out of my stock dunlops
