Thats what Im hoping. Just figured it IS just a lightweight steel tourpak luggage rack, so probably not the beefiest thing in the world, but should be ok as long as Im careful. Was mostly looking for horror stories of those who had done it and gotten bitten by it.

Detachable is the way to go, on when you need it , off when you don't.

Thing is, I like the trunk. Just hate the rack on top of it. Don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Default Tour Pack Cover

Just take the acorn nuts off and remove the rack and put a black tour pack cover on it...Harley sells them along with a bunch of aftermarket folks.

Folks (not me of course LOL) tend to strip threads when they apply more torque than required for the job. I like to use different windshields for short and long rides, so I change them often. I read a lot of threads here about pulling the windshield nuts from the fairing, so I have been using a hand driver (like a screw driver handle) instead of a rachet to keep me from over torquing the nuts. I also apply a little loctite for added security.

I don't think I have really use the rack. I took it off and use chrome acorn nuts in the four holes. It looks kind of interesting even. The rack is hanging in the garage if ever needed.

Be careful taking it on and off and not stress the area around the holes. They could crack, especially in very cold weather. ABS is tough, but it's not indestructible.

I just got the wing rack put on my tour pack for the trip to Sturgis. I have never wanted the tour pack rack either and intend to remove it except for long trips. I have seen guys do this and put round head chrome bolts in the holes. My pack is black and I would like glossy black bolts. Anyone find black bolts to plug their holes with?

I guess I'm in the minority! I like the looks of the rack and would have one even if I didn't use it.

I can't see what color your bike is but if its black you can buy a cheap Mutazu lid pre painted black and just put the premium hinges on so it's easy to switch between the two?
