I'm ready to order a header for my bike and I have a question. I'm trying to decide (like everyone else) between 2-1-2 and true duals. I'm running Cfr's and a concern of mine is blue ing my right side muffler over time. With my stock decatted header I would say 75% of my exhaust goes through the right side and I would like to change that. I like the look and performance of the v&h power duals but I'm not sure how evenly it distributes exhaust gases? The s&s power tuned true duals are another option and by design maybe they do a better job of distributing the exhaust? Can anyone with either of these pipes let me know how well these header do of sending heat to the left side to share the load? Maybe true duals would be my best option, I just hate to give up the torque becouse motor work is on my checklist so it seems alittle counter productive? Please share your thoughts!
If you want the look of true duals, but want the low end power like a 2 into 1. Look at Cobra USA - Power Port Dual Headpipe, it has a crossover between the 2 pipes so you
will not lose the power at low RPM's. I think S&S & Rinehart makes a similar exhaust
system too.
I have the Cobra power ports with the CFR's. PC5 and no bluing in 20k miles so far. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you are using some sort of tuner. I don;t think header brand is really going to make a difference, bluing is from excessive heat and a lean mixture. As long as you have a tune it will be fine.
A buddy had a bike with XIEDs and his pipe blued bad as it was still running pretty lean.
True duals = compromised low end compared to a 2 into 1 or a well designed 2 into 1 into 2. That's just the way it is. I've run them all at one time or another.
Shop around, but take a look at the jackpot or the fulsac or bubs 2-1-2 units.
I lost low end torque with the VHDD's and suggest the true duals with a crossover. I got it back with a richer map but I would steer clear of a set without a crossover. Having to do over, I would have gone with a 2-1 pipe, specifically the VH Pro-pipe but any 2-1 of choice would do. I would have cost me less and prob picked up better low end torque.
