OK - this is timely because I was thinking about getting a 665 - how do you guys like it? Is it durable? One of my ride buddies said you shake the crap out of it when you mount it on the fairing with the HD mount, and it breaks...you guys have any experience to offer? Its a clean looking install.
It breaks how? Vibration, handling problems? I used a 450 for four years without any issues. I know of many who use the 660 or 665 and have never had an problem with the unit. They are built to be used on a motorcycles and vibration/water are not supposed to affect them. If I did not have GPS built into my '14 Limited I would have bought a 665.

My H-D 660 and fairing mount have given me no problems. I haven't had it too long yet, but no worries so far with vibration or rain.
Handlebar mounted 450, then a 550, and now a 660. Never had vibration issues. Only flaky 450's (3 under warranty) and then flaky 550's (3 more under warranty). The 660 has not had any issues.
Jlj6t,
You're gonna love the Beartooth(The most beautiful place I've ever seen). I did much of your route in June. In the Black Hills, don't miss the Needles Hwy and Iron Mountain Rd. Yellowstone will be crowded and slow, so don't plan on getting anywhere quick. Hit the Wind River Canyon south of Cody and when you get to Colorado Springs, make the run up Pikes Peak. The view is awesome and the road is a white-knuckle adventure.
I use rideplanner as well and discovered using the waypoints as well. One glitch though, if I remember correctly, is you are limited to the number of waypoints on a route.
If I recall correctly, the number is 9. What is don't recall for sure is whether that's per trip or segment.

Lots of different comments on the number of Waypoints HD Ride Planner will allow. Here is the correct number. You can continue to add waypoints but I'm not sure how well they will download to your GPS.

I'm pretty sure Ride Planner will allow more than the GPS on the 2014's allow. I believe once you hit the 9th waypoint on a route, it truncates the route.
I used to use Tyre, but it seems as if the last update to my Garmin screwed it up. I have a Nuvi 2597 and if I plan a route w/Tyre my Garmin only picks up the first & last waypoint, so it then calculates the route based on the Garmin settings.
I started using Basecamp & it seems to be working correctly. The learning curve isnt too bad for Basecamp.
