not enough for me to come to any kind of conclusion regarding my bike
There isn't one! As mentioned, they are not very accurate and are different from bike to bike. You can 'calibrate' yours by comparing it with a multimeter, but there really isn't any merit to be frank. Ride, enjoy, and if it changes start checking stuff.
14 ish is normal? Anything around 12.5 and up means you are putting more in then you are taking out it's charging. They have a voltage regulator so that can swing up or down slightly depending on loads etc? I am sure 14 is just fine.
I have one in my RK dash, siliconed it into a 10mm holder and now with a glance I know what state the charging system is in. Been using these for years on aircraft. UK approved! That's for you Mr Brown

And jolly fine it looks to old chap! Thanks for that, might even be preferable to my Kuryakyn LED voltmeter. I'll buy you a refreshing warm beer next time you're over - cheers
Just wondering what your voltmeters read at idle and on the road. Mine doesn't go above 14 when driving. Checked with a meter and 14.1 is what I get, so the gauge is accurate.Jim
Ahem....
Thanks for the readings...the dealer was looking at my Voltmeter and said it didn't look like it was charging properly. Kind of freaked me out so I wanted to compare.
I have a dakota digital gauge at idle with stereo turned down, it is 13.5. and running 13.9 when stereo goes up usually goes down to 13.7. my gauge reads .2 to .3 tenths less than at battery with meter. hope this helps I also have a 3 phase 50 amp stator with a lots of power draw
Mine reads 10.5-11 on battery and 13-13.5 at idle and at 2k rpm and above. I measured the battery only level with a good meter at 13.1 so mine reads a little low on the lower scale. They definitely are not very accurate.
