My buddy is a fire chief. He once told me that when they get a call to an accident with a motorcycle, odds are the rider is dead with no helmet, neck and servere facial injuries with a 3/4 helmet and neck injuries with a FF.

Don't know about the Harley thing but if I had to wear a full face helmet I would just take the car
are you kiddin'?

I wear a full face for comfort. I also laid one down with a 3/4 helmet at 50 mph. FULL FACE IS BETTER. But like I said, I like the comfort of a full face helmet.

I used to ride with a friend with a VMAX who rode without a helmet. He always gve me a hard time because he got waves from Harley riders and I didn't.

It's called a generalization and it's fairly accurate if you've ever ridden in a state with no helmet law. Even states with helmet laws you see mostly 3/4 and half helmets versus full face helmets on Harley riders.

It doesn't literally mean that all Harley Riders refuse to wear full face helmets.

Here's a list of other dangerous activities if anyone would like to broaden the nanny discussion: clicky.

thanks
Of course this question and versions of it have been debated numerous times. Personally I hate a full face helmet but I wear one frequently. When I don't, I know the risks. Some people buy into the whole image of trying to be a "biker", but I am certain that many (myself included at times) just can't stand to isolate themselves from the experience. And no, at least to me, riding with a full face is not nearly as rewarding as without (except at high speeds for a long time, then I am glad to have one on).

As to why you hear these comments, how many are from riders? How many from HD riders? Or do these come from non-riders? I have never bad mouthed anyone's helmet choice (or lack thereof) and can't remember anyone bad mouthing mine (at least not in person, on the internet everyone has an opinion and wants to share it).

If you like a full face - rock it with style. Heck, get a bright green one with a built in Mohawk! If you don't want to wear a helmet that's cool too. Me, I am going to make my choices every day based on what I want, weighing what's right for me the best I can, not based on what someone else believes I should be doing.

For me, the wind noise kills me, so I very rarely (almost never) wear my carbon dot half shell. 90 percent of the time, it's a 3/4. Now if it's cold, high chance of rain, or a long distance ride, I prefer my modular FF. I can still hear my music with either of the 3. Wind noise is greatly reduced with the 3/4 and all but gone with the FF.

I guess you could say on my bike, I am selfish. It's all about me. I bought the bike I love and enjoy riding and have added some mods to make it something I enjoy even more. My gear is all about comfort.

I love my full face lid. I do me, they can do them. I got hit with a brain bucket on and had my face get dragged on the street not fun.

Full face for life now. Bell Star matte carbon and I also have a full face Simpson super bandit

Freedom of choice
I wear whatever is the most comfortable for me at the time
Inclement weather I have a Nolan N104 I really like
A beautiful day like today I do not wear a helmet
Let those who ride decide

I wear either a 1/2 or 3/4 depending on weather. The only reason I don't have a full face or a modular is because I can't find one that fits. The bar that goes across the chin and jaw area is too tight even though the helmet fits my head.
