when I lived in NY this is what I did. According the law, it can be determined to be illegal. Cannot be on a part that is "easily" removed and switched between vehicles - dealer installed the mounting plate when I purchased the bike. Unless you are being a total jerk, the police will let it go - be jerk and they will right you up. in my current state, the inspection sticker is about 1 inch x 1 inch and goes on the license plate.
$46.99????????? Holy Crap. the one I had on my Heritage was $14.99 and looked the same as the Kuryakyn one. I'll see if I can find it again. on my bike now(2009 Street Glide) its just mounted to the frame, I need a plate also, I think it looks much better...........
Here's a few........ Black and Chrome ones...............................

No, it's not.
If a LEO wants to be an ***, he will write you, but I would have it dismissed in a hurry
KNOW the law, fellas... verbiage directly from New York's website:
ALL MOTORCYCLES REGISTERED IN NEW YORK STATE must be inspected and display an inspection sticker on the left front side of the motorcycle attached to a structural member. Bolt on plates may be used.
When I lived in NYC, I almost never had my bikes inspected--most of 'em wouldn't have passed, anyway. And, never had even 1 single problem with LEO.
Unfortunately, when you live in nanny states like NY or Cal, you are basically treated like a criminal for even daring to own a motor vehicle. Glad I'm outta there.
Mine is on the front left down tube. Don't care for it there but it's pretty much out of site. Don't understand why it can't be attached to the registration and stored in bike the same way that trailer inspection tags are. Ugliest damn thing there is on a bike!

Motor vehicles in California do not require state safety inspections.
As mentioned above I used the plate from Kuryakan and mounted down low by the crash bar on my 2010 Street Glide. Never a problem and have been through road blocks for inspections.
