Smile cooling...how fast?

I ride a 2012 SG. Near my home, there is a park with a 20mph speed limit. I usually ride 20 in 2nd gear. Wondering if 20mph is fast enough to cool the motor. Any thoughts? Thanks

If the motor is off, 20MPH should cool it just fine. But if it's running, it's still producing heat.

These motors are built like tanks. Air flow is the key.

So unless you are sitting in traffic for long periods of time and it's 90+ degrees, no worries.

The only time I ever had a problem with that was back in the day when you could ride on some of the beaches in Florida - I was cruising up the beach, into the breeze, no issues...coming back, on the other hand, I was doing about 10 mph or so, and so was the breeze, so in effect, I wasn't moving. Bike started pinging and rattling (old Honda inline-4) so I pulled a U-turn and rolled back into the breeze and it was fine.

But in your situation, just rolling thru a park? It'll be fine unless it's one long, LONG park...

It depends on what oil you're running. Just messing with you. Don't worry about it.

Only time I ever had an issue with overheating was in Sturgis on my '96 Fatboy. Because of all the stop signs and traffic you basically walk your bike thru town, slipping the clutch. I had to pull over (as did many others) to let her cool down. It worked out well we ended up staying a few hours to enjoy the scenery.
