I boughta set of sampson fishtail drags, plenty loud for me, I love the look and cost 150 bucks. I still run the stock headers, at some point I will go true duals, but see no reason to get rid of the fishtails. I don't notice any difference in power. But I am new to this Harley, so once I add more engine upgrades I may need to do something else to improve performance. A buddy of mine just drilled out his baffles. Also a cheap alternative.
1/2" X 12" drill bit. Or.....I could sell you a set of Screaming Eagle slip ons from my Street Glide for $100. in good shape.
I'll advise you NOT to drill a hole through the stock mufflers. Most who have done that have been very disappointed with the odd sound that this produces. We used to get good results by doing this to our stock mufflers when we owned Evolution-engined bikes, but the mufflers are vastly different now.
Wait until you can afford a decent pair of slip-ons like Cycle Shack for example. Shop the websites. One member here has purchased a pair of modified, rebaffled stock mufflers on eBay for 125.00 and says he likes them. Hang on to those stockers.....you may need them intact and uncut someday.
