My 2 flats were in addition to FMs spec of x turns plus x flats. I also bought the Motion Pro push rod tube tool. $20 from Amazon. Makes reinstallation of the clips a snap.
I don't use Loctite on adjustable pushrods. They will not come loose if the jam nuts are properly torqued. Gumming up the threads with Loctite makes later adjustments a pita. You don't need to be a gorilla with them, but they need to be snugged down, approx. 10 ft lbs (100 to 120 inch lbs).
Well, ya, but I'm not pulling the heads for this job.
WUT?? You said you have adjustables?? You remove your pushrods when you manage to get them loose and put in the shorter tubes. You'll be glad you did next time you go to adjust them.

If you wind up doing a four pushrod adjustment, you might consider fully collapsing them for removal, and swap to the quickee pushrod covers. Makes adjustments or later upgrades a lot easier.

Yeah, after I posted I realized that I could totally loosen the pushrods, pull them out and replace the tubes.
I'll have to think about that, this is getting a bit involved for someone with zero experience working on engines.
I used the FM adjustable pushrods and their tool. First one took awhile but then other three went pretty easy when I got the hang of it. Stock pushrod covers.
