Those with extended saddle bags
Many will say it's stupid, why do it, it's silly---whatever! I love the look and I'm okay with taking curves at 80% of my riding ability---I do have skid plates on. There are others in my group with 4 inch stretched bags---that may be your ticket. They still look good, but that 1/2 inch shorter length makes a bit of a difference and I don't think they touch down as quickly. Also---when riding behind the 3 or 4 guys with 4 1/2 bag in a curve--I cringe at how that bag gets so close to dragging---but they never have. I guess they're riding at 80% too??? I have asked them if they drag and they say no. I've looked under at their skid plates and nothing. I guess we aren't as great of a riders as we thought in curves.
I also talked to a few installers at Bad Dad and they say that dragging the 4 1/2 isn't as common as one would think unless you're out riding the "Dragon" or something. All of those installers have 4 1/2. Some on this forum will say otherwise, but remember this forum represents a very small population of the typical HD rider....everyone isn't out riding the dragon or the gap every year. When asking people if they "drag" their extended bags...make sure you're comparing apples to apples...people with very similar riding skills as you. I had alot of buddies to ask and we all ride together. I wouldn't ask someone who leans so low they can slap the ground--because I don't have those skills.I've been told that if you are a current floor board dragger ...then consider against getting extended 4 to 4 1/2 inch bags. I was never a floor board dragger other than pulling out of a parking lot and pushing/leaning hard.
CVO bags are an option. They're just not my thing. But I'd pay to see someone drag them. Maybe it's possible--but I'm just not sure why they have skid plates.

They are on an `09 FLHT,which is one inch higher than a Street Glide in the rear.

To all of u who scrape, do u just hear your skid plates hit, and u keep doing what you're doing or do you reduce your lean angle. I'm sure you'd hear it on slow maneuver turns...but what about those "at speed" turns? I've only had mine about 2 months---so, I'm really still gauging things and I bet I could just forget about them and ride until they scrape. Guess, I'm just nervous about it.
