Default Those with extended saddle bags

Is there a loss of ground clearance or do the floorboards drag first?? I love hanging the curves and honestly I touched the hwy peg and not the floorboard. But I really like the look of extended bags... Thanks

My 4 1/2 stretched will hit before the boards---although I haven't hit them yet and this is just my guess. They are about an inch lower than my boards...I measured. I absolutely love curves and ride pretty hard having come from sport bikes. I find myself taking curves at about 80% because of my bags. Really slow, sharp curves are the ones I'm really careful with. Regular curves, exit/on ramps---I'm not too concerned with. Having said that, my 80% in curves is better than most of my riding partners' 100% in curves. Exit/Enter drive ways and parking lots that have a huge dip carefully and you'll be fine also.

Many will say it's stupid, why do it, it's silly---whatever! I love the look and I'm okay with taking curves at 80% of my riding ability---I do have skid plates on. There are others in my group with 4 inch stretched bags---that may be your ticket. They still look good, but that 1/2 inch shorter length makes a bit of a difference and I don't think they touch down as quickly. Also---when riding behind the 3 or 4 guys with 4 1/2 bag in a curve--I cringe at how that bag gets so close to dragging---but they never have. I guess they're riding at 80% too??? I have asked them if they drag and they say no. I've looked under at their skid plates and nothing. I guess we aren't as great of a riders as we thought in curves. I also talked to a few installers at Bad Dad and they say that dragging the 4 1/2 isn't as common as one would think unless you're out riding the "Dragon" or something. All of those installers have 4 1/2. Some on this forum will say otherwise, but remember this forum represents a very small population of the typical HD rider....everyone isn't out riding the dragon or the gap every year. When asking people if they "drag" their extended bags...make sure you're comparing apples to apples...people with very similar riding skills as you. I had alot of buddies to ask and we all ride together. I wouldn't ask someone who leans so low they can slap the ground--because I don't have those skills.

I've been told that if you are a current floor board dragger ...then consider against getting extended 4 to 4 1/2 inch bags. I was never a floor board dragger other than pulling out of a parking lot and pushing/leaning hard.

CVO bags are an option. They're just not my thing. But I'd pay to see someone drag them. Maybe it's possible--but I'm just not sure why they have skid plates.

Thanks for the info. I too come from 15 years sportbike and some road racing background. I am impressed with how far this barge will lean compared to some other cruisers I've had.

Slap a piece of molded magnesium rolled on the corner of the bags at the bottom and when you scrape you'll throw sparks :-) plus it will save your bag edges.

I managed to drag the 4" bags on my SG on both sides if the bike. They definitely hit before anything else. On my RG with CVO bags the boards hit first. If there is enough money in it, I'm pretty sure I can drag the CVO bags before the floorboards top out

I have the 4" Top Shop bags, and scrape them quite often.

They are on an `09 FLHT,which is one inch higher than a Street Glide in the rear.

Haven't drug mine yet, I try to be pretty careful after all the $$ I spent on the rear end! That HD Merlot Sunglow paint wasn't cheap!!! I'll pick my air ride up all the way if we hit some places that look tight & leave it there. Been a few hard leans that I thought I'd come close but nothing yet

On my 2014 CVO bags do not drag, only the boards.

Yeah man, I have a partner with 13 Road King who actually drags the actual floorboard mounts--that's how far his boards flip up. Nope--my skills aren't that great bro--those crotchet rocket days-I had nerves of steel. Now, they r just bad nerves!

To all of u who scrape, do u just hear your skid plates hit, and u keep doing what you're doing or do you reduce your lean angle. I'm sure you'd hear it on slow maneuver turns...but what about those "at speed" turns? I've only had mine about 2 months---so, I'm really still gauging things and I bet I could just forget about them and ride until they scrape. Guess, I'm just nervous about it.
