I have done searches to see if others have come up with an inexpensive and safe way to mount a parade flag on their FLHX. I participate in Memorial Day, Veterans Day parades, and a couple other events during the year. I had a sweet set-up on my Sporty that would allow me to fly my 3x5 flag safely and efficently. Now with this 13 SG, I cannot quite seem to find a way to do this. I don't care to spend $200+ for a Rivco flag mount, but it does look like a sound unit.
Has anyone found a solution that works for them? Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!
Denny

Send DannyZ71 a message. He's in the PG and runs a flag...
Here's what I did. I bought two heavy duty aluminum trolling rod holders and bolted them to an aluminum plate. Then I used U bolts to attach it to my detachable luggage rack. The pins with the u clips on the rod holders go through the flag poles to hold them in place. I've run them up to 45mph with no real problems, but for highway running I cover them up with some nylon slip covers the wife made up for me. Don't plan to run the flags at highway speeds.

Thanks for the tips..... didn't realize we had a PG section. Got a few ideas there. And I have been searching the internet for ideas....just haven't see much.
Izzo....great idea.... I do like that. No noticable movement with the luggage rack? No major issues?? I will start looking for rod holders. And i always cover the flag during travel. Uncover and unwrap for the actual ride.
More thoughts and ideas....keep 'em coming!
thanks!

Here's what I built. I have used this at interstate speeds with no problems.
Detachable passenger backrest with mount, still in the building process.
On the bike. The pole is PVC, with an aluminum pole, and an oak dowel inside for rigidity. Note the "Guideon" cut flag. It takes the snap out of the flag at high speeds, and helps to prevent shredding. I also added 2 grommet mounting points to the flag, so it's attached at 4 points.
I've had this rig up to 75 MPH on a couple of long escorts where LEO decided to be in a hurry.
