Took my 2012 RK to the dealer for a new front tire and because the rear abs was malfunctioning. They put a new front tire on and fixed the rear abs by replacing the control module.
When I got home, I was looking more closely at the receipt and it said under work order notes: "Wheel has axle spacer support piece missing but will not cause problem."
Does anyone know what this is all about? Is it something I should be worried about?
I have 2014 Ultra Ltd. When having rear tire changed, tech found that the axle was difficult to remove. On closer inspection, he found the spacer/compensator that fits on the pulley side of the axle between the bearings and end of the axle was missing. This allowed the bearings to shift along the axle. This shifting put substantial premature wear on the bearings on both the pulley side and the rotor side of the wheel. In addition, the shifting caused damage to the hub of the wheel.
End result, HD is warranting a full replacement of the rear wheel, axle, bearings, spacers and abs connector. There were no obvious symptons, and the 15k service had just been completed. Only found out because I decided to replace the rear tire early before a long trip.
