2007 SG randomly stalling out
The IAC stands for 'idle air controller'. I believe it controls
the amount of air that comes into the intake at idle. This
has been known to cause some stalling on the 2007 96's.
Update 8/26/2014:
Eastside Harley Davidson picked the bike up from my house
today to take to the dealer. I called and spoke with the
service manager and explained what was going on and to
see if he knew about the issues with the 2007 96 and also
the TT410 service bulletin. He said they were up on all of
it and not to worry, they'd get it running great.
I also printed out the TT410 service bulletin from April 2009,
and typed up a letter explaining what was going on with the
bike and sent that along too.
So I'll update this post when I get info on what they determine
is the problem.

Yes, last night I pulled the cover and AC off to get
access to the IAC port. I hosed it down pretty good
with some carb cleaner.
When I took the air filter off (stage 1 Harley filter),
the entire bottom edge of the seal had separated
from the filter. I don't want to spend $60 on a
replacement HD unit, I'd much rather get a Ness
Big Sucker kit and replace the whole works.
I asked the dealer if they could use a filter they
had on hand and I would replace it myself when
I get the bike back. I'll know more tomorrow after
I get a call.
From what I read online in other forums. the cleaning
of the IAC always seemed to be a temporary fix and
the problem would come back. I'm hoping to get a more
permanent fix with a possible replacement.
Also, the IAC wasn't always the problem. So I figure
my best shot is to have the dealer test all the various
systems in case it's something else.
I did buy an extended warranty with my bike, so I'm
hoping anything that does show up, will be covered,
but again, won't know till I get a call from the service
department.
One thing I did think was pretty cool is that anytime
I want anything done to the bike, they will send out
their driver to pick the bike up. I live in Orting, WA and
it's a LONG way from the dealership in Bellevue. I do
plan on doing most of the basic maintenance myself,
but it's good to know they'll pick it up and bring it back
at no charge if I need to.
More updates to come...

BUT, it will happen again when the IAC orifice gets dirty.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
and when I turned to go into the parking lot, my 2007
SG just died. I coasted into a parking spot, tried the starter
a few times and nothing. Waited a minute, hit it again
and it fired right up.
At first I thought maybe my key fob battery was low,
but I learned that wouldn't cause the bike to die, but
would prevent it from starting back up.
I did put a new battery in the fob anyway and pretty
much forgot about it. Then last week I went for a ride
and it stalled 3 times on me. When I started thinking
about all the times it stalled, it seemed that it happens
when I'm decelerating and making a right turn. Might
just be a coincidence, I don't know.
I did get an extended warranty when I bought the bike
used from the stealer. I called them and they are going
to pick the bike up on Tuesday and take it back to their
shop. The warranty does NOT cover the diagnostics to
look for the problem. That's a minimum 1 hour at $105 + tax.
If the problem is covered by the warranty, then I have
to pay my $50 deductible. Of course if it's NOT covered
under the warranty, I'm on the hook for the full amount.
I just thought I'd check here and see if anyone else has
had similar problems before. I know when I had stalling
problems on my 2005 Ultra Classic back in 2008, I believe
it was the fuel pump or something else with the fuel injection
system. That cost me $650.
Any ideas or suggestions on what I might troubleshoot?
Figure as long as I have a few days, maybe I can find
out what it is on my own. I do have a service manual for
the bike too.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Greg
It was the fuel hose fitting on the hose that feeds the fuel to the EFI assembly at the chrome quick disconnect left side below tank right near horn cover. If you re-seat it, it may fix it for a while, but it will return. There is a spring loaded grooved lip the hose fits over and it wears with time with all the engine vibration at idle. $50 fix. Easy to change.
