Had a screw thru the sidewall to the outer edge of the tread, didn't flatten it, but I replaced the tire anyway...

Picked up a 3" nail inthe rear tire on my 93 ultra when I had it, plugged it and wore the tire out no problems, would do it in a heart beat.

A proper punture repair consist of a plug through the hole and a patch on the inside over the plug. At the very least I would have the tire repaired with a patch plug. I carry a plug kit for emergency repairs only to get me off the side of the road. Not sure if I would replace or repair. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

A lot of you guys are throwing away perfectly good rubber. Please send your puntured tires to me. I will put a tube in them and gladly wear them out.

I've never had to plug a tire on a m/c, but I carry a kit and would do it to get me home. I'd then buy another tire.

Having said that- over the years I have known quite a few people who have plugged and/or patched m/c tires in the tread area and never seen or heard of anyone having problems...

As you can tell Plamb is the one busting my *****. I feel better with some of you who have plugged a tire with no problems. This tire has 2300 miles on it, and I hate buying a new tire because so much tread is left. I will buy a new tire and put it in my basement and ride on the plug for a little while and see what it does. Thanks for all your inputs.

Mike

Plug it long enough to get you home or where ever and then get it replaced. Unlike a cage you only have 2 skinny patches of rubber on the pavement. Ain't worth the risk.

Buy a new tire. Life is short, don't make it shorter.

Good luck.
