Got almost 4 years out of the original battery, and could have gotten more, but since brand-new, the motor never turned over briskly when I hit the starter button. Sometimes when the motor was hot, it would even take a split second or so to even starting turning over.
Just changed it out with one from battery mart for $99 with shipping, and it has more cold cranking amps than the OEM battery. Should have changed it out a long time ago based on how this one turns the motor over.
Oh, and the OEM battery was always on a battery tender since new.
Bought a '98 FXSTC 2 years ago. Bike had been sitting pretty much since 2002 (4,000 miles since '02) and according to the date code punched out the battery was installed in '02. Was still starting that bike, but I replaced it last year. That battery is now in our Jetski, still works. I have no idea how it was maintained before the time I bought it, I always used a battery tender on it.
7 years on the original battery on my 2007 Ultra. Always on the HD battery tender during winter storage. As long as the battery tests good each spring I'll keep it.
