Default HD mp3?

I ordered my new bike with the mp3 player. I was leary of how well a CD would work on a Harley. My last EG had a cassette deck and when a local car stereo expert garrenteed he could custom install a CD changer in one of the bags the thing started skipping as soon as we fired up the bike and didn't stop till we shut it down. Out it came on his dime!

Initially I regreted getting the mp3 player, the difference in volume between it and the CD rendered it almost useless and the CD turned out to work amazingly well. Then I read a post about an AB switch on the board that if you change this to A it will increase the mp3 players volume. This did the trick, I've barely had a CD playing since. A 1 gig SD card can give you up to 8 hrs of music and it will never skip, scratch or wear out.

What was not mentioned in this post was that the documentation refers to this switch as a voltage selector. I'm guessing that the company that makes it also sells it for another application that requires a lower voltage and pumping more into that circut increases the volume. Does any one have any more info or experience on this? Do you think I'll fry it? Just curious. I'm leaving mine on A till it dies. I's beats leaving it off!

Bruce, the A/B switch is in mp3 player. Remove the head from the handlebar mount and the switch is on the backside of the head covered by a small rubber plug. Try it and let me know what you think of the improvment in volume.

Hey

The amount of audio signal coming out of the MP3 (or any playback device) is rated in volts. When you raise the voltage, you are turning up the signal amount going out to the Moco radio. The reason its referred to this way, is all radios aux inputs can handle only a certain amount of voltage in before they saturate--aka sound like crap. Kinda like when we all used to make our own cassettes and had the record level too high--the tape playback would sound distorted--turn it down and re-record--and voila.

I have NO idea why radiotech would have the factory setting on low! Especially for such a high priced unit with zero features.

I twist the right grip hard and often. I've never had this happen or seen anyone else have this problem. Since the mp3 player plays thru your stereo I think you would experience the same interuptions. Is there any indication that the unit has lost power at thease times? When it happens while playing a CD does the track time counter pause?

Thanks for the info Pez. So if I understand you correctly this is an output voltage and won't have any negitive impact on the player. As far as the sound quality goes I have no complaints. Sounds as good as the CD playing the same mp3's converted to audio files.

Correct---only thing that would happen if the voltage was too high (within reason) is the aux input on the radio would saturate and the system would sound like crap. Moving the switch over makes the MP3 much better but still not perfect.

Hvae lots of people ask me for a fix---In Canada the MP3 from HD is around $500 and shouldnt need a fix!----not that Im bitter about it

Ride Safe everyone!

wow, thank you guys. I'm new to the forum and I have the mp3 player from HD for about a year now. I like it but was always disappointed in the volume..couldn't hear anything at highway speeds with the volume up. Saw this posting on the a/b switch in the unit..went out last night, moved it to A and it did the trick! Thank you so much, I was disappointed in it until NOW. Another testament to you guys.
