I have HOG TUNES in mine and they are great. Just before I got them I was in Laughlin and was going to get the J&M's, but the vendor was out of the model for my bike. I did listen to the J&M's and I don't think they have the sound that the HOG TUNES do.
As far as just getting a regular auto speaker, that might be a problem, as motorcycles need something weather proof. Also, the new HD's with the Harmon Kardon radios have 2ohm speakers and most car speakers that I have seen are 4 or 8 ohm.
I'm running with a short windshield on my FLHTC....and I'm thinking I need to upgrade my speakers. I've read a few things about J&M speakers and Hogtunes......What do you guys recommend? And do I need an amp with the upgraded speakers or does the upgrade solve the problem over the stockers????
Thanks for any input.
There is an article in American Iron Magazines May issue that deals with J&M upgrade with step by step instructions.
Yeah I read that article but it sounds like a lot of folks are using the Hogtunes....I'll try to contact Pez....Thanks all.
most decent audio speakers today are made of Polypropylene you can use them on your bike, save some cash and have better sound.
I had hog tunes, replaced them with mb Quart---outrageous sound but pricey.
You can get decent kenwood, pioneer, jensen, etc. that will out perform hogtunes for half the price.
Hogtunes does have excellent customer service.

You'll get many different opinions with this one. Many good coax's designed for cars for about $50. If you're a DIY'er, you can drill out the rivets in the stock mounts and replace with the new ones. If you want to add color, you can reskin the grids with swimsuit cloth from any fabric store. I did it on my '96 and always had positive comments.
Forgot to mention, make sure the impedence is less than 8 ohms. 4 ohms should work just fine, 2's are rarer. And yes, most cones nowadays are mylar or poly. The days of paper cones are long gone. The "dual-cone" design is preferred over the bridged coaxials if you want bass.
If I am wanting to upgrade my speakers on an 06 Street Glide with Hogtunes, do I need the amp also? I am planning on eventually getting the chopped tour pack so I will not have rear speakers. Thanks, Rob.
I've had J&M in my 03 Ultra. I now have Hog Tunes in my 07 along with the Amp. Both are great products. Pez, does have great customer serivce, and to me that means something! Just remember when buying the speakers, that you match the ohm with the radio. The newer H/K's use a 2 ohm speaker and the older models use a higher ohm.
Just finished installing the HOG TUNES in the wife's Street Glide. What a difference. I ordered them last Tuesday and they were here today. PEZ even threw in a Canadian Biker Magazine for my reading enjoyment.
I have a Gold Wing and an UC. On the GW i got rid of the cheap, can't hear them at 60 MPH speakers and installed the J&M. ON the GW the volume goes from 0 to 30, now i can hear the radio on 15-18, before i could barely hear on the 30 setting. J&M does a great job of matching the electronics to work well with the existing system. I've always been pleased with their products and their support.
