Default Speaker recommendations

I'm running with a short windshield on my FLHTC....and I'm thinking I need to upgrade my speakers. I've read a few things about J&M speakers and Hogtunes......What do you guys recommend? And do I need an amp with the upgraded speakers or does the upgrade solve the problem over the stockers????

Thanks for any input.

I can vouch for the Hogtunes speakers. They will definately cut through the wind noise better. Add their amp if you really want to beef up the bass response and get an overall fuller sound.

Learned about Hogtunes from this forum. Pez is the best to work with. He won't sell you more than you need. Upgraded to them this year and they are great. Speakers really make a difference and you can always get an amp later if you want one.

you should only need an amp if you are using a stock HD radio and are adding rear speakers.
fairing only speakers w/ HD radio should not require an amp.

You'll get many different opinions with this one. Many good coax's designed for cars for about $50. If you're a DIY'er, you can drill out the rivets in the stock mounts and replace with the new ones. If you want to add color, you can reskin the grids with swimsuit cloth from any fabric store. I did it on my '96 and always had positive comments.

There is an article in American Iron Magazines May issue that deals with J&M upgrade with step by step instructions.

I don't think just any old automotive speaker will fill the bill.Wouldn't they need to be waterproof? Polypropylene or something?
