Default oil pressure

Hello. My 2011 street glide(96 engine) normally oil pressure gauge reads 8-12 psi at idle. Highway speeds around 32 psi. Yesterday, I noticed gauge read 32 at stat up idle and was same at highway cruise. About a week ago I added about 1/2 qt of oil to just below fill mark. I use regular harley oil. Bike seems to run perfectly fine. Any thoughts or reasons why this is happening? I`m no wrench, so i am concerned. Thanks in advance.

Cold start-up will always read high oil pressure...as the engine heats up the idle oil pressure will drop...the higher the ambient temp the lower it will go.

It just goes to show you - if you can measure it, you will worry about it.

totally normal. Your oil pressure will always be high at cold idle as your oil is thicker and harder to move when cold. As it heats up it becomes thinner and easier for the oil pump to pump the oil at idle.

That's why they don't come with an oil temp gauge.
