I had a weird thing happen this evening on my FLHTCU. I left the house with everything working as normal. About half way through the ride, I go to turn on the cruise and no joy. No light on the switch, no light on the gauge. A little while later, the check engine light comes on. Then I notice I have no turn signals. When I get back to the house, I discover I have no brake lights.
I checked the code on the PV and got a low brake light, lost tach info message. I pulled the fuse cover and started checking fuses. None blown and still no joy. I then started checking the relays for fitment and discovered most of them had "play" in them. I pressed them all in as good as I could, including the lighting system relay. Everything now works and continued through a road test. Needless to say, checking the relays now goes on the list of things to do on a regular basis.
I want to try and confirm the error message and issues are consistent with a loose lighting system relay. Anyone else ever had a similar issue?
Being your from a salt water enviroment, you will have to be pro active in your bikes electrical system.Electrical connections need to be cleaned with a contact cleaner and then protected by using a dielectric silicone grease on the terminals.I won't go whole hog on every terminal on the bike, but would get the main relays and ECM connectors for a start.
Pull the fairing and check wiring that may have rubbed through the insulation, happened to me was two wires rubbed on radio frame, drove me nuts till i found it. Hope this helps.
