If you use Search for 'dobeck' in the titles of this Touring forum you will find only 15 threads about them, so it doesn't seem to be very popular in here. Sounds a reasonable system to me and I recently bought one for my Buell, but haven't installed it yet.
This Forum does not define Dobeck systems just because of the few post.. You would have to go to Dobeck to try and determine if this is the system you want to cool your unit down. I have a Dobeck system on my cycle but I will not recommend nor would I recommend it.
I have a Dobeck tuner and if you like tuning your bike manually this may be the tuner for you. I prefer to fine tune my own bike so I would recommend this setup. They also offer a discount to military.
my '09 had one on it when I bought it. Ran super hot and pinged bad. Adjustments didn't seem to do anything??? I'll send it to anyone who wants it for $10 shipping...
Does any one have any experience with the dobeck performance tuners trying to cool my 110 down and not break the bank. Thanks
Most of their units, like other similar devices, are "add fuel" only. To see any significant cooling, one would normally have to add so much fuel that others issues would crop up.
Most likely you'd benefit from a full-featured tuning system that allows changes to the timing tables. Incorrect timing can add a lot of heat very quickly.
I had one on my '04 and thought it did what it is designed to do very well. The basic models do nothing but add fuel- no timing adjustments. Very simple. It stopped the decel pop to a nice gurgle and gave a nice little boost in performance. I'm pretty sure they make more sophisticated models, but you would be wise to check out their website.
I use to have one on my atv couple years ago, I would hope they improved since, but I wouldn't buy their products. I never had issues with it, but I haven't notice any improvments either, just wasn't worth the expense...
My Heritage was running hot. I put on a Dobeck tuner, amongst other steps to try and cool the bike down a bit. The Dobeck helped a little bit (bike ran may 5-10 degrees cooler). I didn't get a more significant step-change towards the cooler side of the spectrum until I put a Jagg oil cooler on.
