Tri Glide Reverse
I started having trouble with my reverse this season. Sometimes it moved really slow, sometimes not at all, and yet sometimes it worked as usual. While checking things out about two weeks ago, I wound up with the reverse not moving the motorcycle, and not being able to get it "out" of reverse either. So, no movement forward either as you couldn't get into a forward gear. I could hear the relay click but it didn't do anything. The dash mounted voltage meter would also drop to 8 volts when the reverse button was pushed after the initial push to prep it for use. Finally managed to get it out of reverse and taken to a Harley shop for service. Reported to be a bad (malfunctioning) solenoid on the starter motor used for reverse. Cost almost $430 to get it fixed. It was explained to me that until fairly recently the only fix Harley had for it was total motor replacement for about $1300.. I'm sure that someone more mechanically inclined that me could probably have fixed it for a whole lot less money. Hope this isn't your problem.
