Default Cat

My Dad passed away, and I inherited his 2012 TriGlide. My wife WAY prefers riding with me over the Sporty (don't blame her). But... The exhaust is miserable hot. The cat has to go. Bike is stock. If I cut that sucker out, is it going to run like garbage?

Thanks

No it won't however you might think about doing a stage one by adding a tuner like the power commander and air cleaner, both can be gotten from Furl Moto plus they will send you a map that will make it run richer and cooler. Maybe some new exhaust too.

You can get a decatted headpipe from several sources, like fleabay for about $125. If you cut the end off make sure you mark it real good, so when it get welded back together it is aligned properly. Or you can use the trap door method. Depending on your funds aftermarket headpipes are available from many sources. Fullsac has a sportpipe that works really well, exchange is available for better pricing. You don’t need a high dollar performance pipe, any touring pipe (tc) will fit your bike. As others have suggested Get a tuner, FM is a great company to deal with, that will help with some heat reduction. Air filter, cams, and probably mufflers for even more help with performance/ heat control. Take your time read and learn a little, it will save you some $$$.

I took the cats out of my pipes when I installed the Dyna Max tuner. Got two bung plugs to cover the holes. No need to buy header pipes, unless you just want to change them. The cats were useless with the Dyna max tuner.

You aren't running any oxygen sensors ? (Got two bung plugs to cover the holes.)

If you head pipe has the curved pipe on the back you will have to cut a trap door in the header to remove the cat. If you have the removable little S pipe in the back you can just take it off and drill the cat out using a 1 x 16 inch paddle bit .. I know my 15 had the S pipe .
