I have a problem with having a more round head and the sides are real tight at first, in fact the intercom speakers have to be fitted into the foam ear areas.
After a couple months use it finally fits, snug but it isn't nearly as tight as new.
You really need to talk to HJC and let them answer your questions.
I don't know what style helmet you like, but not all are listed even to 5X size. here is one that is 5X:

Also here they explain how to fit::

But give them a call and find out the specifics .

HJC HELMETS

511 S. Harbor Blvd. #V, La Habra, CA 90631TEL. 562.407.2186
Thanks for the information. I did call HJC yesterday and spoke with someone who seemed a bit out of his element. (I may try to talk to them again.) As much as anything I think the problem I am having is the shape of my head. I went to Smokey Mountain HD yesterday and tried on the model they call "Capstone". I was being helped by the manager of their retail department who told me it is the HJC i90 produced for HD. It felt ok at first, but he asked me to leave it on my head for a bit to see how it felt after a few minutes. It wasn't long before the pressure on my forehead and the back of my head was very uncomfortable. He felt that it would only worsen in time and that I was better off looking elsewhere. I have a Bell Pit Boss in a 3Xl and it is "ok". I also have an older HJC in a 3XL. Both still fit ok. But, I just want to get something a bit better. Vega produces a 6XL, or they used to. All of that said, I am looking for helmets that are geared to the shape of my head. I suspect that a smaller size will work if the shape is correct.

Another consideration: Its been my experience that the foreign bike dealerships (particularly the Japanese model stores,) have the largest selection from which to choose.

Both of my last two purchases came from the Suzuki / Kawasaki store. The local HD selection was mediocre IMO.

I'm on my 3rd Nolan Modular helmet in the last 15 years.

Each one of them I have had to do a little reshaping of the inserts to get them to fit snugly, but not too tight. I would get a helmet where the inside cushioning can be removed for cleaning....that was you can also remove it and use a knife or scissors to carefully reshape it to fit your noggin.

Here's a video we did on the latest helmet I got-

In addition, when we were looking at helmets, we found out that some of them have different size pads for around the ear area. For our HJCs, there were pads that were like 9, 13 and 15 mm thick. So if a helmet fits in general, but there are pressure points, it's possible that the manufacturer may offer optional inserts. And you can trim the soft foam interiors, but stay away from doing anything that can impact the structural integrity of the shell no matter what. (The dense foam is part of the safety system, don't mess with that either.

I also found out with some judicious trimming of the insides, you can increase airflow. Make sure the holes in the liner mate up with the inlet holes in the shell.

Jeff I talked to the dealer that I said had ordered the 6X and he did say it was a Vega.
I have a vega that fits well, and one that fits way too tight no matter what liner I use.
Vega has two sizes of shells. If they happen to put a XXL liner in the small shell it changes the fit badly !
Vega Is hell to deal with ! You almost can't get anyone on a help phone. And when you do it is in an office filled with people that are the final shipment area. They know very little about the product.
I like the helmets but hate the support !
Jeff, take a look here also.

Like Kevin said the Nolan helmets are very good quality also.

Rodger,

Thanks for clarifying that. Based on Stiggy's recommendation above I went to the website of a local non-HD dealer and found the Vega in a 6xl. I ordered it. I checked everywhere else that I could think of to no avail and was glad to find it as I think that size has been discontinued by the mfg. I also ordered an LS2 that is supposed to be better for the shape of my head in a 3xl. The weird thing about this is that I have a Beanie helmet in a 2xl that fits ok. Its shape seems a bit more elongated than round, so I suppose that is the type (elongated) that I need to look for. I'll look at the Nolan if the Vega and the LS2 don't fit.

Jeff, the Vega has changeable liners for changing the size of the helmets. The 6X would have the larger shell so you might have some luck changing liners to fine tune.

I have a modular Shoei that I really like but my head is more oval and the helmet is more round. I'm curious when you mentioned reshaping the cushioning with a knife or scissors. I always felt that if I could trim the cushioning that is against my forehead the helmet would be much more comfortable. Right now I'm good for 1 to 2 hours but any longer than that my forehead feels the pressure and begins to hurt. I thought about doing something with the cushioning but I didn't want to jeopardize the integrity or safety factor built into the helmet. How and where do you trim yours?
