Default TRI Glide engine Temp

I've noticed that my 2023 TRI Glide seems to run hotter than my 2020 road glide did. I know the TRI Glide is geared lower so it turns more rpm at any given speed, is this the reason for the higher engine Temp or are these animals running a little leaner to help with fuel mileage?

The engine in the Tri Glide is dragging about 400 pounds more than the Road Glide, and the Tri also has much more aero drag.

My question is, why wouldn`t it run hotter?

What Dan and Nokkon said...plus was your Road Glide equipped with an oil cooler?

Your Tri Glide has no oil cooler. Here is a video showing how that effects things.

Great video that makes perfect sense.
I recall installing an oil temp gauge on my 2002 FLHTP a few years ago and was shocked at how hot the thing ran. 270-280 on a hot day was not unusual. Installed an oil cooler and a power commander, which dropped it down to 240-250 under the same conditions.
My current ride is a 2012 Tri-glide with factory cooler, exhaust pipe mods, different cams and a re-tune. Just for grins, I took it out the other day here in Phoenix when it was 105 and ran it for 20 minutes at freeway speeds. On board oil temp gauge showed 230 which is pretty darn good considering the conditions.
Shame on HD for not installing an oil cooler on a 50K machine. As usual, DK nailed it and this seems like a good fix. As a retired engineer, I spent 7 years in fluid dynamics. I can tell you that the best oils out there don't like anything over 270* sustained. Particularly on an air cooled motor.
Just my 2 cents.
