Just purchased a new 2012 tri-glide. I had the pipes changed and dyno tuned. I had only rode the trike about 100 miles before I had this done and did not notice any engine chatter before the pipes were changed and it was dyno. I am now hearing a chatter when I throttle down at speeds of 60-75 mph in 5th or 6th gear and especially 6th. It is loud enough that my wife also hears the chatter. It sounds kinda like a loose screw or something vibrating. Has anyone had this problem or can anyone tell me whether they think having it dyno could cause this problem or is it a problem? Thanks!
I heard the same thing after I changed out my headpipe. It ended up being a loose heat shield clamp. I had them all tightened up and the top one on each headpipe came loose. Re-tightened and no more noise, plus they stayed tight after that.
Check the rubber isolators on the mounting bracket on the mufflers at the rear or heat sheild clamps.
What Bullet said. Washed trike before Carson City trip and the left muffler was loose. Took to indy and the rubber isolator had "backed out"...the noise usually heard while idling or on decel. Rubber isolator put back where it belongs and no more rattle.
If the noise is decel only then chances are what others have said, loose heat shield or mount.
It could also be a heat shield adjustment. Check where the heat shields come together. Look under the end of the shield that overlays the other. If there are rub marks that is where your clicking will be on decel. If not sure, place a folded up business card between the shields and go ride. If that stops the noise you will know what do to.
It will almost sound like a lifter that doesn't pump up all the way.

Something else to think about make sure the gaskets to the headers are making a good seal..Could cause some noise also on decel??

Barbara, if it happens again, have the indy replace the rubber muffler mounts with the larger style from the '11s. Worked for me and others.
