rotating handlebars up.......

Yes you do. That's the easiest way. Then once in there you only have to loosen the closest two handlebar clamp bolts then retighten them. (Not all four)

The other way I got to those was by pulling the batwing and removing the radio I was able to get in there. That was a bitch screwing with those radio bolts. (4)

I'd watch the you tube video how to remove the ignition switch and reinstall "properly" and go in that way to get to the bolts.

Tip: after going through all this trouble I chose to remove the bolts and lock tight them, reinstall them, and tighten the **** out of them so they didn't loosen up again and so I never had to do this again.
