Default Air/fuel adjustment screw

I tried searching this but it isn’t letting me in for some reason, I haven’t been bad I hope.
Ive installed the S&S Stage one air breather on my 2000FLSTC......it has had the big bore kit since new but nothing else. Just had cam plate and everything that goes with it upgraded along with stock cam set and lifters. I know from the forum and other riders that twin cams came from the factory lean. I’m to the point of going to drill and remove the aluminum plug in the mix screw sleeve.
Im expecting to find the screw 3/4 turns out.
can someone recommend a good starting point when I begin backing the screw out from zero.
thanks for the help

If you need to go much further out, you need a bigger pilot jet.

I believe he has the original CV on there, if so 2.5-3 turns is pretty common..

Didn’t have much time to play with the bike this week but did get that plug out without removing the carburetor. Your correct it has the stock Keihen
40 mm CV carburetor.
planning to gently bottom out the screw to check where the factory set it then bring it out 1 1/2 turns and see how she runs. Has always had a slight ping but that disappeared with a 48 jet but the mpg went to crap. So the stock 45 jet is back in and hoping a little tweak on the mix might be enough to get it running better.

Default Different Bike Now

Today I drilled out and exposed the fuel air mix screw which lived under a plug on my 2000FLSTC. Backed it in easy and found 1/4 turn factory setting unless it moved with age. Brought it out to 1 full turn. Totally different bike, smooth idle, seems more peppy and has faster throttle response.
My pipes don’t seem to want to burn through my jeans now. Is that a symptom of running lean?
Thanks for the forum advice,
