I hate to break the new to you Perk....But the V-Rod is a slug when compared to jap bikes half, it's displacement.
The engine/transmission unit is far too heavy to be viable in a sport bike configuration.
The bike is typical Willie G crap.....Too low, too long and too damned much rake in the front end.
The earliest V-Rods handled like **** and the later ones handle a little better, but not much better.
A V-Max is a FAR superior motorcycle and is MUCH faster.....The V-Max even looks cooler.

I think your confused... The Vrod is not intended to be a sport bike. I had a Vmax back in the late 80's. It made 140hp and was a rocket but that's really all it had going for it. I sold it and bought an ironhead sporty. I have many fond memories of road trips and all the chicks I picked up on that sporty!

Truer words have never been spoken re the Vmax. The Vrod was a rip off of the Vmax. The sad part was that when the Vrod came out in 2002 it still paled in comparison to the original 1985 Vmax. The Vrod is dead for the same reason Buell is dead. The minute HD puts a model up that's supposedly based on performance they come too short on performance compared to everybody else, it's more expensive and it isn't a traditional Harley; so they can't even fall back on the old "yeah it's under powered (sprung, engineered, weighs too much etc) but it's a Harley".
I'm surprised the Vrod lasted as long as it did. I think it was a fail safe plan to have something water cooled in the event that they couldn't get the air cooled line to pass emissions. I don't hate the Vrod, I hate that Harley didn't develop it further and put it in a useful chassis.

Good morning Greezy, the quote you used had nothing to do with the subject you are now referring to.

I was referring to Harley having nothing to do with it, just saying Watch the video.
I think its biggest problems are the traditional Harley customer isn't interested in it, but it's still too much of a cruiser to be of interest to non-traditional Harley buyers.
This is it exactly. The power is there, and the potential for the handling, but forward controls and a laid-back riding stance are incompatible with sport-bike performance and handling. With the right rearsets and clip-ons, I personally would be first in line to add a VRod to the stable -as it is, I'm thinking of a BMW S1000RR ( I know where I can get a slightly used 2014 cheap) or maybe a late model Yammie R6.

I always thought the factory should have built this bike... but they didn't so I did.
That is awesome! I've always liked the Vrod because of the engine primarily. Hopefully they'll put the engine into something else one day and update it.

I can't help but laugh at this comment. All true IMO.

So go buy a V-Max. I'm curious to why so many Harley haters comment so much on a Harley forum.

I'm hoping that someday Harley will build a similiar bike.
Same **** I heard when I owned the V-Rod. That usually ended in being challenged to a race with a 'Real" Harley, then the Real "Harley" rider getting smoked.
The V-Rod motor is excellent. It should get moved to a different type of frame. It's not a V-Max.....But notice the V-Max is the only bike in it's category. The Diavel may be another in it. I never liked the look of the new V-Max. The original V-Max did not handle all that great, but a hell of a motor.
