Default HELP - Harley Down

I'm so disappointed I don't what to do. My '03 V-Rod has been down for 7 of the nicest weeks in SoCal history, 80 degrees nearly every day and lots of great rides missed. After 12,000 miles of flawless running, something went out in the EFI system and neither my dealer nor HD can sort it out. I'm new to HD bikes and don't know if 7 weeks is a long time at the dealer or not? Have any of you experienced down time this long, and is the EFI in the V-Rod so difficult no one can figure it out? Now since the dealer is closed Monday, they can't talk to the factory until Tuesday, and next week is only a 3 day week anyway. I may miss a 4 day week-end. Anyone got any thoughts? Just wanted to vent here...

I didn't answer this right away, wanted to make sure you were cooled down. Now then, that just sucks. I can't belive they need seven or more weeks to figure out why it won't run. Are they waiting on parts or an OK or something? Hell they can make you a new one in that time. There must be something we don't know. Anyway Burt,if you lived here, you wouldn't be able to ride anyhow, two feet of snow. Keep us posted to what was wrong.

It's a crying shame the lack of service we sometimes get for the prices we always pay for these bikes. Good luck.

Snarly, your name is about how I feel. Yes, it has been a part problem, and an electronic problem. When the part comes in it still codes bad. Acording to the service people, the techs are trying everything including long calls to the factory. I just find it hard to believe I'm going on 8 weeks with no bike. Besides, my wife want to out of here so she can decorate the house, she hates me around when she does this. I need my bike back to save my marriage!

You have my serious sympathies. Seven weeks doesn't sound right. Only advice I can offer, if you haven't done so, is mention this to the huge V-Rod community at v-rodforums.com. Many experts and a lot of experience there.

Call HD and complain. There is a number on the website that will connect you to a warranty rep. There is no excuse for the bike being down this long.

Thats good advice. It would seem to me that the dealer is just grasping at straws trying to find something when in reality they have no idea what it could be and are counting on your patience to let them fiddle with it. But the fact is it shouldn't take more than a week for a trained HD mechanic to figure out if he or she is going to be able to fix a problem or not. Call the factory and explain the situation to them. You paid alot of money for your bike to be without it for that long. A similar situation happened about six months ago when a guy bought a new Ford F250 and it was in the shop for about 3 weeks and the dealer had know idea what was wrong. A telephone call to ford ended up getting the guy a brand new truck. No factory wants to see their customers unhappy.

I can understand your problem and it doesn't hurt to vent, I've done it a few times. Have you thought of seeing if the dealer can give you a loner until you get yours fixed?

Thanks to all who PM'd me, and also those who posted here. I guess I've been patient long enough, so on Tuesday I'll call HD Customer Service. Naturally, since it is now public, I promise to post my results, good or bad. Believe it or not, its been in the 90's here yesterday and today, and other that watching NASCAR, I had nothing to do. I want my bike back...

Called dealer this afternoon to check on status. They were still having problems. So I mentioned that someone on the net had suggested I call customer service at HD and would they think that would help. They said they'd call me back in a few minutes, which they did and suddenly they think they found the problem. Called me back an hour later and said to pick it up tomarrow! They also promised to road test it for sure. So, if there are no new issues I'll drop this situation. But I'm still pissed I missed 7 weeks of no riding. I'll try and make it up somehow. Thanks everyone for you support and suggestions...
