I agree eazy, and decided to bring it up yesterday. The service writer assured me that they had dismantled the engine to the piont that they would have found a problem like that, so I assume they removed the heads as well. The regional guru is supposed to be here this week, so I'll know more then.

I'm screwed anyway for a while. Have to see the orthapedic specialist Monday, and the x-rays I have show that smaller bone in my lower leg to be completely broken. Been fighting with the insurance for the other driver until today - they seem to have seen the light and are processing my claim. I'm sure you know how that goes. No word on the bike (my Sportster) yet, but I think it will be close.

I stopped by the dealership today and here is the latest:

A factory rep looked at (listened to) the problem earlier this week and apparently gave the dealer the go ahead to tear the engine down. It has a burned up rod bearing. Apparently there is an oil delivery duct to this bearing which passes through some sort of spring loaded ball valve, which the mechanic said probably failed. He mentioned noticing an initial absence of oil pressure after he changed the oil at 5000, then rechecked it and it was fine...or so he thought. The dealer is pushing for a new engine, but the engine to fit this bike is not available and will have to be custom built by the factory. Hmmm. It's beyond me to understand the whole thing, but I am rooting for the new engine option. I suggested they just use the new 1200cc engine, but it won't bolt in the 05 frame.

The V Rod has been in the shop for a month now, but then I am crippled up for at least another month healing from wrecking my Sporty. What a mess. I went from HOG heaven to HOG hell. But I realize the accident could have been much worse, my kids are home for Christmas, so I really think life is pretty good...Ken

I hope they are taking care of all of the bills no questions asked.

Good luck.

Yeah, the dealer has been very responsive, even to to point of offering up a demo bike to use. The service manager said he is pushing for a factory engine. I guess that the higher end warranty work has to be approved at higher levels as well. The bike is bone stock except for the larger passenger seat and a clock. So, they are honoring the warranty.

But you might have been refering to the wreck. I had to push some on that at first...finally mentioning the "L" (lawyer) word. But the police report and witnesses were in my favor and the other driver was cited, so their insurance has already sent a check to cover the cost to fix the Sporty, and will pay for a new helmet, leather, etc. The medical still has to be worked out; I am putting it on my insurance so far. It probably won't be huge, but who knows. Several doctor visits and lots of x-rays.

Thanks Eazy, for your input and support.

I'll defiantly be investing in an extended warranty for mine. Seems to be a lot of people with serious motor problems.

Thanks for the sentiment Billy, and a Merry Chistmas and Happy New Year to you as well. It is worth noting that my V Rod was running perfect until that 5000 oil change. Maybe something went wrong...

Saw the engine dissassembled down to the case yesterday. Very impressive technology. And a lot of people I have talked to believe this is a very well engineered and manufactured engine - bullet proof is the phrase used most often. I think mine is a rare exception, or as Eazy points out, something went wrong during the service which caused the lubrication problem. Hmmm.

The latter is still my thoughts on the problem. I am very pleased with the Revolution and my experiences seem to be the same as most every one's---bulletproof. I know there can always be a possibility of problems with any mechanical device but I would consider human error before Revolution error.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

But I doubt it.

I have to admit at this point I am starting to wonder. It's been two months that the dealer has had my V Rod. I stop by every few days, or call, but still no word from the factory (they say) about what HD is willing to do. I know the holidays put a kink in things, but surely someone at HD headquarters can make a decision about poor little me. That was the first bike I ever bought new, and will probably be my last. I know eventually the dealer will do something, but wonder what a warranty is really worth. Not sure I'm looking for a response. Just venting. More and more I think something went terribly wrong at the 5000 mile oil change (like Eazy said), no one wants to admit it, and here I am with a new bike I can't ride. Eazy, But short of hiring a lawyer I don't know where to go next. I could picket the dealership... you know, get a permit. Then they would really be careful reassembling my bike. Crap!

Sounds like the stealer may have screwed up and it could be a fight between HD and the stealeras far as who is gonna pay to fix your ride. Maybe?

I can say this. You can blast this dealership on forums such asthis and believe me...word gets out. However, it must be politically correct and do not go as far as slander. Juststate the facts and add a"word of caution" to those that may consider using this dealer in the future. Then, show the dealer this forum.

Do this if ya wanna start rocking their world a bit.

Just my $.02
