think of buying a street rod, how much work is the 10000 valve adjustments, do you really have to partially drop the engine, kinda like ducatic maintenance$$$$
The duration is 12,000 miles but I have heard of owners going 25,000 without and when done not needing much adjustment. Yes, though, the engine does need to be partially disconnected and tilted to access the valves. Part of the price of a higher performance engine.
I combined my 10k service and, at the time, 12k valve check at 11,500 miles. (There is an excellent shop in Mesa,AZ that does this affordably and very well.) Mine needed two valves reshimmed. Do what you will with that tidbit of information.
Which ones? mine need (?) two of the exhaust valves (one each cylinder)reshimmed but only very minimally at 10,919. Would have been fine without however.Did it here cause the engine was out of the bike, made it cheaper and easier.
I would have to hunt up the work sheet again. I have it, but with the move and all..
Anyway it was an intake and an exhaust, different cylinders. Neither were critical, but since the engine was out and those two valves didn't match the rest, I had Buzz go ahead and do them. Same way with the spark plugs. They were OK, but I went ahead an replaced them. My kid is using them in his GL500. If you can afford it, it doesn't hurt to look.
