Default Ate it...

Had my night rod special a little over a month. I was in town a couple miles from my house taking off at a light and some guy in a dodge pulled out in front of me. I laid the bike down luckly not going more than 10 mph. My foot/ ankle provided a bumper and only the clutch lever got a scratch. I had a buddy on a busa with me that came over and helped me get the bike up(and off my ankle). I don't know what was worse, laying in the middle of the intersection or looking at my gauge cluster and it saying "tip". As to remind me of what had happened hahah. Thank god nothing really significant happened to me or the bike.

What kind of gas mileage is everybody getting? I have a 2008 DX. I used the trip odo. and I only got 105 miles on the tank when full. I filled up and it read 4.2 gallons at full. Is there a reserve or something? I thought it was a 5 gal. tank? Pardon me for not sitting and reading my owners manual for hours on in if there is.

Take it easy, McC

thanks guys, appreciate it. I can laugh about it now that nothing really bad happened..... i walked the bike to a parking lot about 40 feet away to catch my breath and think about what happened. a city bus stopped and unloaded people next to us about 15 min after it happened(so they didnt see me lay it down). one guy got off the bus and drooled over the DX. That in itself says something about this bike.

any info on the gas mileage???

I've seen 33 on my best tank. H-D's rating is a joke.

Glad you're ok.I wentriding on my 08 VRSCDX this weekend and got 36 mpg on the first tank and 38 mpg on the second. it was mostly highway miles. I got my bike at the beginning of the month, andI believe the gas mileage will improve as the motor and running gear continues to break-in. As far as a reserve the guy at the dealership told me that there wasn't a reserve and thatI was to find a gas station when I saw the fuel light come on. I think he said it come on when the tank has one gallon left (5 gal. tank).

Problem is that it is most likely that you're comfort on the bike will also improve and you'll start twisting the throttle a little harder. That will make the m.p.g take a dump but the smile on your face a whole lot larger.

well apparently im getting the shaft on my mpg then. I started my trip when i filled up and i got 105 miles with the bike running on fumes. i hear it has a 5 gallon so what would explain me filling up with it bone dry and it only taking 4.3 gallons?

It's going in for it's first service tom. by the way. I'm just trying to figure out whats going on with it before i go in and look like a idiot. hahah

Have a good one, McC

The only way you're going to be able to tell it's actual capacity is to suck the tank dry (by siphon, not just riding) and then fill it completely. Once it's filled completely ride it for a while and then fill it back up to the same level. Take you miles ridden and divide them by the total quantity of gas put in the second time to get your actual m.p.g. You cannot accurately guage your m.p.g. based on how much the tank should hold or how far you should go on a tank.
