I got the chance to demo ride a night rod special on saturday at Sauk City HD, in Sauk City WI. From the moment I threw a leg over I was in awe and love. The power and handling is superb. The wife loved the ride on t he back as well. We will be getting one as soon as we can.
I felt the same way 3 weeks ago, so after just sitting on one I went out and bought one. I liked the look of it while I was in Afghanistan but didn't want to buy it till I sat on one. So when I got home I did just that and the wife saw my eyes and said, it was like looking at our girls on X-mas morning. So I had to buy it, congrats and ride safe brother.
Yep, been there done that. My wife knew it was the right bike for us before I even started the Night Rod we tested. Two weeks later we bought our own D. If you plan on riding double a lot, save your self a lot of trouble and just get the Sundowner seats to go with it. A sissy bar is a must. These bikes will launch even with a passenger without lifting the front end.
Very true, I myself need to buy a sissy bar for the wife and also looking into pipes. But will have to hold off as I have a trip to disney soon. The wife is making me go for the kids, but I am following them down on the bike to show it off to family when we get their. Those are good seats as I have been told by many poeple so I will prob. get that one. But pipes are a little more involed so I am researching them a little more. But what ever you do brother, enjoy it and be safe.
The HD medium low sits too far forward. The backrest pad takes up a couple inches of the seat. We had ours made by Ginz Custom Choppers. www.ginzchoppers.com
It goes back two inches and the pad is six inches higher. Overall it's 19" tall. It's a bit high for a V-rod, but we like it. We ride double a lot. Usually at least 150 miles on any given weekend. We have done a few 400 mile days. The Sundowner seat is really the only way to go. I like the stock seat on the D. My wife didn't like the D touring pillion.
rmartuszewski - Welcome home bro. I do like the Night Rods. Unfortunately, they came out with it a year after I bought my VRSCB
bobbsterkid7 - You will be happy with it. It's the best runn'en bike that HD has come out with to date and I've road everything from iron head sporties to panheads to shovelheads to Evo's. These V-Rods smoke and when you get used to it then you can always "pump" em up
The only thing I didn't like was that the salesmen talked to me like Iwas and idiot. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't themsrp 14995? When I asked what the retail was after my ride he tells me "off the top of my head, 18,500 but we are willing to negotiate because we want to move them before the new 2009 comes in." I was like WTF.
Cape Fear in Fayetteville told me the same thing, 18+K for one. But when I drove out to Sand HIlls Cycle Center they sold me mine for 15K, w/ 1700 down, and even gave my wife a brand new leather jacket for free. A harley jacket also.
So just call and shop around, the dealer I went to sold more than harleys, but I no probs buying a harley from a non harley dealer.
