I have never ridden a bike before. Is a v rod the bike for me?

They can be! Take a MSF class first.

...and don't wait till you have the bike and take the experienced rider course because it's cheaper. The rods are to long and geared to high to be very good for that class. MSF is much easier on someone else's beat up 250cc or 500cc.

Then get in with experienced riders that are willing to help you learn and go on group rides with them. Usually smaller goups of about 5 bikes are best.

A V-rod was the first motorcycle I'd ever owned (a brand new '04 VRSCA), and the first motorcycle I'd ever ridden since I was a little kid on a little mini bike with only one gear. Embarassingly enough, A friend of mine had to show me how to ride it... I didn't know how to shift, or even what lever or pedals did what. I probably looked like an overgrown kid being taught how to ride a bicycle... Anyway, since then, I've taken the MSF course and feel as capable on a motorcycle as anybody. The V-rod was great, it wasn't too tall, wasn't too heavy, and has a low center of gravity, it was a great First bike! I now ride a softail, but will always love the V-rod.

Long-story-short: I think the V-Rod is a Great First Bike ...or second, or third, etc.
