Default Helmet

Hi Guys!!

I'm a noob to this forum and still waiting on my V-ROD A from the dealer's... I have at least another 3 weeks to go and I'm kinda going nuts with anticipation here (and also apprehension I have to admit). So to take my mind off of things, I'm hunting for the best gear in the mean time!

I was wondering what you guys would suggest for a helmet? Full face or Half Helmet? What about hose modular thingies?? I will mostly ride in the city but of course I will also take it out on the highway for some trips. Should I get two helmets; one for city one for higway? $$$$

If you have any specific suggestion (brand/model), please...

Thanks!!

If you want a half helmet, go with ACC helmet

Thanks angry_monkey!

These look like very cool helmets, the look is awsome and it's actually exactly what I was looking for.

I take it that is what your wear yourself... How do you find going down the highway with this for a prolonged period? Is your face all burned up with wind and sun or is it fine? Also, I know that rocks, dirt and moskitos can be problem at high speed, what's your take?

Sorry for asking stupid questions, but I don't know much about riding... yet

Get yourself some good eye protection, I like the Wiley-Xs and be prepared to take a bug/rock every once in a while. Just watch out for the cigarette butts. I also have ear plugs to cut down on the wind noise which will damage your hearing after a while.

For any Harley other than a V-rod I would suggest a half helmet. I like the modular helmets a lot. I've got a black Noland and love it. When you are cruising through traffic you can flip up the whole helmet. When you come to a stop light you can just flip up the shield. They block all the wind and are great in the rain.

Just my opinion.

Well for my 2 cents, I have a full face for cold, 3/4 helmets for trips. and half for the short runs, I would just try them on and see which works for you, I agree with Angry_Monkey about good Eye protection, I have the Wiley-X goggles

Guys, thanks for all the good advice...

I'm now in more dilemna than before! I saw the flip Nolan X-lite x1002 flat black elegance, what a beauty! Thanks for the tip terry! I'm also considering the Advanced Carbon composite extended half natural carbon... I also really like that half-german model, but I'm not sure I have the ***** to wear it cause of all the good connotation that comes along with itl! Don't know which one to choose anymore.

Summers in the city (Montreal) are really hot and sticky, and since I'll be riding mostly in and around town, I think i'll go with the half and see if it's worth investing another 400$ in the modular model for longer runs.

Also, Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for gogles monkey, they have tons of them for cheap on e-bay and I also found this page that has a great selection of prescription gogles for what seems to be reasonable money... Didn't think about the gogles at first but they seem essential with half helmet now that I think about it it... DOH!

Do any of you guys know if it's safe to go with a non-DOT version of the helmet (ACC extended-half). Is it street legal? Do you get a lot of grief from the police when wearing one?

I wouldn't get a non- DOT, helmet, here in Calif the LEO will ticket and some will take the helmet if it doesn't have the DOT sticker, check what the LEO will do in Montreal! my 2 cents
