I want to paint my brushed aluminum Vrod. Are there any special steps that need to be done because it is aluminum? Are the painted models aluminum also?

Thanks in advance
No, it's a pretty simple process. I am an old painter and now work for an automotive paint distributor. The simpliest way to paint your V-Rod is to throughly sand the aluminum with 320 grit sandpaper. Blow it off, wipe it with a good wax and grease remover then prime it with an epoxy primer. With many epoxy primers, you can paint directly over them, in other words, you would use the primer as a primer sealer. The one thing to remeber about aluminum is that it is a self-healing metal, it starts to oxidize very quickly. So you want to prime it immediately after sanding. If you have any filler work that needs to be done, you can apply it to the roughed up bare aluminum (80 grit), or it can be applied over the cured epoxy primer. If you want to primer surface the bike and block it to get it really straight, the primer surfacer can also be applied over the epoxy. More than likely the tin on your bike is undamaged so you could just epoxy prime and go right to the topcoat or base coat/clear coat. Consult with your paint distributor, we sell PPG which is a good brand, but all paint brands have good systems as well. Hope this helps!
