Hi all,
I took a ride on my lunch hour over to my local H-D dealer to pick up a accessory catalog and noticed a few v-rods on the floor. I was scoping out this '04 all chrome body work scooter and the sales guy came up and asked me if I'd like to ride it. Well, yea I said so... off we went. And all I can say is WOW! what a ride. I own a '98 Ultra and it's like these bikes weren't even made on the same planet! I can't part with my Ultra but, I'll tell you, I'd love a V-rod as a second bike.
My wife enjoys riding and my Ultra has sentimental value as well (my Dad gave it to me) so a V-rod wouldn't be feasible as my only ride.
I believe that this engine is Harley's future.
It was a fun lunch let me tell ya!
Has anyone seen a V-Rod that actually sounds like a Harley. My favorite thing about HD's is the sound. A V-Rod pulled up next to me the other day and I couldn't even hear if it was running. Just courious if they can be made to have that Harley sound.
At the HD shop where I bought my Harley, the dealer said that a number of middle-aged people as well as the younger set were buying the V-rods. I like the looks of the bike, I'm just not sure about the leaning over the tank thing.
I will be purchasing a Vrod in 06. I currently ride an 02 Road King and will keep that for long hauls. I love the power, the low sleek look, and being water cooled I can take it to my Fla home without worrying about overheating the aircooled Vtwin. Of course I maybe bias, since my wife rides her own Vrod. Definitely a good choice for a second ride.

Won't sound like a 45 degree air cooled v-twin, for it is a 60 degree liquid cooled one. But this is OK. A loud rumble isn't what stirs the soul but a low deep one. This is what turns heads, and the V-Rod has one with the right pipes. Loud V-Rods don't sound good and neither do loud big-twins. Low and deep is the key. My Softail has one as does the V-Rod... with the right pipes.
