I bought a night rod from a dealership in alabama and the salesman told me it had a tune on it. I have noticed that when i am crusing around it surges at a constant speed. Could this be from the tune or something else. I told the sales man and he said it could be the gas because it had sat in the shop for a few months. so I ran a few tanks through it but its still doing it. It acts like a bad wire or a coil breaking down but I dont know much about bikes but have built a lot of drag cars and know general machanics by all means. any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
I put a V&H FuelPack on mine initially. I noticed a considerable hesitation around 3,000 RPM when just cruising. I also had a lot of exhaust popping between 3000-4000 RPM when cruising. Long story short, after several phone calls to V&H with no progress I returned the FuelPack and went in on a SEPST with dyno tune. Made a world of difference!
I'm guessing something could be wrong with your tune. Does it have a SE tuner or PC? If it's under warranty still I would have them take a look at it. Pehaps through it up on the dyno again and make them fix it.
It sounds like it could be on the lean side either from the tune or from an intake leak. Try to find out what the salesman meant when he said it had a "tune on it" and what tuner is used to do it. They should re tune it under the warranty if it isn't running right and they did the tune. Lean as in surging can cause engine damage if run long enough like that.
WJKramer where did you purchase your soft ware from to tune your bike? can you buy it from a HD dealership or from some one else? Thanks a lot
HD Part #32111-11 if you want to buy it. I didn't though. Had the dealer tune it. They only charged me for the physical tuner and they ate the cost of the 2011 software upgrade because I was the first to have a '11 on their dyno.
