I just bought the '07 Nightrod Se. I've already got the dealer working on finding/getting the big bore kit to tweak it out and get a few extra HP outta it. My question is, they are recomending the Thunderhead exhaust, any other suggestions? I'm new to harleys so any advice would be welcome. I know it'll increase hp <and am looking into a new air intake as well, want it all tweaked before my first ride> but will it give it a deeper rumble as well?

Yes

Another option is the Cary Faas Racing (CFR) exhaust. Any 2-1 exhaust will be better for HP, as generally understood.

After listening to sound bites and the looking at a few different types I decided on the thunderheader, a little subdued compared to the CFR pipes but a nice rumble. Do you all suggest changing the air intake and getting a pcIII?

VRSCs are intake restrictive, meaning that the power is limited by the intake and not the exhaust like most cars.Opening them up through exhaust is not going to do much, you will need to do something to the intake if you want to see power gains. The PCIII is what I use, but you can use most anything if it's done right. You definitely need something though.

Good choice for exhaustif LOUD is not your thing.

From what I've been reading and all other advice I think I will go with the pcIII, anything else I'm missign here Eazy? I have the THslipons and heat shields on order <ouch!> and am shopping around for the new PCIII at a good price, I just want to make sure I have all the parts for when I roll 1k so it can be done all at once and dyno'd out. And yea, I didn't really want to go to loud but wanted it have some rumble and I love the look of them on the bike.

I have the PCIII USB, and installed the unitand loaded the program myself.

You will need either a K&N or Screamin Eagle air filter, and a map for the PCIII. They can be found on the website, provided you have the USB. Assuming that you will be doing the work yourself, make sure you upload the newest software off of the website BEFORE you connect it to the bike. The PCIII will come with a stock bike program. One thing that can be done is to install the PCIII into the bike before the pipes/air cleaner, that way you can check to make sure that there is nothing wrong with it. I have never heard of there being something wrong, but if by some chance there is, you only have one place to look for a fix. The installation of these parts is fairly easy, and there will be sufficient instructions in order to DIY. I did (and taken them off, andput them back on, and taken them off, and put them back on.......)

If you lack the space, tools, or confidence to do it yourself, make sure that the installer uploads the latest software to the PCIII. Thing may have changed since I bought mine, but there was a problem with the software in the model run that me, my Brother, and another friend bought and if the software was not updated, the user runs the risk of having the rear cylinder fail to fire. The only resolution to this problem was to remove the PCIII and send it in to be repaired. Another reason to make sure it works first, because you can remove it and continue to ride without the pipes, but not safely with them on without the PCIII.

The three of us have never had a problem with it.
