The 240 tire is a heavy beast, takes a lot of horsepower to turn, for just performance I would consider going to a smaller size at first tire change time.
How much smaller of a tire can you put on a 240 rim? If you're talking pitting a smaller wheel and tire then spacers would be needed etc... No?

"IF" I was going to a smaller tire, like a 200, it would have to fit on the same rim. It wouldn't be worth it to me to change rims.
I don't know what tire would fit a stock 240 rim, just thinking about it right now.
I checked out vrods for 3 months because I was primed for a new bike, was convinced I was going to get a denim white Muscle because I was ready for something different....But alas....in the end I got a deeeelux cuz there's no denying who I am & who I've been, an old fart cruiser guy.
Enjoy, and I will live vicariously through you!

I also seriously toyed with the idea of a Vrod, but landed up with the Heritage. My wife just could not go for the rear seat on the Vrod. I will also have to live vicariouly.
The stock V-Rod passenger seat is definitely about as useful as **** on a bull. (but no more so than a factory Dyna or Sportster) If you have any desire for anything close to comfort, you need to swap out for a cushier unit. H-D made a touring pilion as well as the discontinued "Sundowner". Both were available for the '02-'11 bikes and are a huge improvement.
If you seriously don't like the 240 rear, a lot of guys with 180 wheel/tire will trade you for your 240 wheel an tire. I'm getting stuff together for the conversion now. A 200 will fit the 180 wheel too so that's an option.
I'm not giving up my 2013 lightweight wheels though so a tire change is all I would consider to lighten the load even more. If there are no options for a smaller, lighter tire that can fit my wheel I'm staying at 240. A 180 I think would look too small under my bike.
I ended up with an 04 VRSCA last January(2012). It has the 180 rear tire & true to most v-rod owners, I had to do a few mods(See pic). I ogled the new V-rods, but was content with mine. I have ridden enough canyons to occaisionaly scrape my bootheels and peg bolts. I wouldn't dream of trying it with a 240 rear. I'm not sure the cornering ability is there ... don't get me wrong, I love the look of the newer Rods, but just not sure about the handling. I don't know if a 180 rim, sprocket, suspension combo mod would fit the new unit, but I don't see why not. You may need a longer axle for the 180, unless the bearings are the same on the 240 version as the 180.
To address the questions of some other posters, ...To get my wife on the bike, I had to change the rear pillon to the tour model & add a small sissy bar. She rides with me maybe 6x/year.
